The mission of the MCBL training program is to provide a world-class,interdisciplinary research training program for basic science and clinical trainees who will become leaders in research on lipid metabolism and its relation to cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity/metabolic syndrome.

The MCBL training program is based at the University of Alberta and includes 7 mentors (appointed in the Departments of Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Medicine, Pediatrics, Pharmacology and Institute of Human Nutrition) with interdisciplinary expertise.

The MCBL training program provides a unique opportunity for trainees to integrate clinical, pathological, population health, social and basic science aspects of diseases related to defective lipid metabolism. In addition to basic and clinical research opportunities, the training program includes a vibrant journal club series, research-in-progress presentations and a seminar program that hosts lectures from foremost lipid and lipoprotein experts from around the world.

The MCBL training program allows for enhanced interactions leading to development of collaborations through sharing of resources and expertise. In addition, the trainees have access to state-of-the-art facilities operated and maintained by the MCBL Research Group.
